He is a former Vice-Chancellor and Professor at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Dhaka.
He completed his MBBS from Chittagong Medical College (1976), followed by MS (Otolaryngology) from Odessa State Medical Institute (USSR). He further achieved a PhD from Kiev Scientific & Research Institute (USSR) and an MSc in Audiological Medicine from the University of Manchester, UK, reflecting exceptional academic and clinical excellence.
Prof. Pran Gopal Datta has received advanced international training in:
Microsurgery of ENT from Tuebingen University, Germany
Audiological Medicine from Great Britain
He has extensive expertise in the diagnosis and management of ear, nose, throat, and hearing-related disorders, including hearing loss, tinnitus, vertigo, sinus diseases, and complex ENT conditions, with a strong focus on audiological medicine and hearing rehabilitation.
Throughout his career, he has served in key academic and clinical roles, including Registrar, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor across leading medical institutions. At BSMMU, he served as Professor, Chairman, and Treasurer of the ENT Department (1999–2009) and later as Vice-Chancellor from 2009 to 2015.
Prof. Datta has made outstanding contributions to medical science and has been honored with numerous prestigious awards, including:
