Prof. Dr. Nazmun Nahar

Prof. Dr. Nazmun Nahar is a highly respected Vitreo-Retina Specialist and Ophthalmologist in Dhaka, known for her advanced expertise in retina care, ophthalmic surgery, and medical education.

She completed her MBBS and Diploma in Ophthalmology from the University of Dhaka, followed by FCPS (Ophthalmology) from the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons. She achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first female Ophthalmologist in Bangladesh to obtain the FRCS (Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons) from the Royal College of Glasgow, along with a second FRCS from the Royal College of Edinburgh, highlighting her international recognition and advanced surgical training.

Prof. Dr. Nazmun Nahar is a renowned Vitreo-Retina Surgeon with specialized fellowship training from the LV Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad, India, and Ispahani Islamia Eye Institute & Hospital, Dhaka. She has extensive experience in managing complex retinal diseases, ophthalmic trauma, and cataract surgery.

She previously served as the Head of the Retina Department at Ispahani Islamia Eye Institute & Hospital and is currently working as the Professor and Head of the Retina Department at Lions Eye Institute and Hospital, Dhaka.

With experience of performing more than 10,000 eye surgeries, she is recognized for her contribution to advanced eye care in Bangladesh. She is also a mentor for long-term retina fellowship programs and actively contributes as a teacher and examiner for Diploma and FCPS Ophthalmology postgraduate students, supporting the development of future ophthalmologists.

Prof. Dr. Nazmun Nahar is an expert in Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) and received specialized training in ROP from LV Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad. She is considered one of the pioneers in ROP screening and treatment in Bangladesh, playing a key role in improving neonatal eye care.

Her areas of expertise include retinal diseases, vitreo-retina surgery, ophthalmic trauma, cataract surgery, and ROP management, making her one of the leading retina specialists in the country.
