Dr. Ashiqur Rahman Akanda

Asso. Prof. Dr. Md. Ashiqur Rahman Akanda is a highly qualified Pediatric Ophthalmologist & Squint Specialist in Dhaka, recognized for his expertise in child eye care, strabismus management, and advanced ophthalmic surgery.

Born in 1979, he completed his MBBS from Shere Bangla Medical College, Barisal in 2003, followed by DO (Diploma in Ophthalmology) from the University of Dhaka in 2006. He later achieved FCPS (Eye) from the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons in 2012, demonstrating his advanced clinical training in ophthalmology.

Dr. Akanda further enhanced his specialization by completing a prestigious Fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology & Squint from the University of Michigan, Kellogg Eye Center, USA, one of the top-ranked eye institutes globally. He also received short-term fellowship training from Aravind Eye Institute & Research Center, Madurai, India, and hands-on training in advanced Phaco (cataract) surgery from Susrut Eye Institute, India.

Currently, he is serving as an Associate Professor of Pediatric Ophthalmology at the National Institute of Ophthalmology & Hospital, Dhaka, where he provides specialized care for children’s eye diseases and complex strabismus cases.

Dr. Md. Ashiqur Rahman Akanda is actively involved in research and academic development, with multiple publications in national and international medical journals. He has participated in numerous international conferences, seminars, and symposiums across countries including India, Spain, the USA, and Thailand.

He is also serving as the Joint Secretary General of the Association of Pediatric Ophthalmologists & Strabismologists of Bangladesh (APOSB), contributing to the advancement of pediatric eye care in Bangladesh.

His areas of expertise include pediatric ophthalmology, squint (strabismus), childhood eye disorders, cataract surgery (Phaco), and advanced ophthalmic care.
