Prof. Dr. Shamim Rashid is a highly experienced Neurology specialist in Dhaka, Bangladesh, with more than 30 years of clinical experience in treating disorders related to the brain and nervous system. His areas of expertise include epilepsy, stroke, paralysis, headaches, nerve disorders, and other neurological conditions.
Prof. Dr. Shamim Rashid began his academic journey by completing his SSC in 1984 from Nazrul Shikhalaya, Moghbazar, followed by HSC from Dhaka College in 1986. He later earned his MBBS degree from Sir Salimullah Medical College & Mitford Hospital in 1994 and subsequently joined the Health Cadre through the 17th BCS.
To further specialize in neurology, he completed his MD in Neurology from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), formerly known as Bangladesh Medical University, in 2009.
Over the years, Prof. Dr. Shamim Rashid has held several academic and clinical positions in the field of neurology. He was promoted to Assistant Professor in 2016 and later Associate Professor in 2023. He is currently serving as a Professor of Neurology at the National Institute of Neurosciences & Hospital (NINS), Dhaka.
He has extensive experience in diagnosing and managing a wide range of neurological disorders, including:
Epilepsy and seizure disorders
Stroke and paralysis
Migraine and chronic headaches
Neuropathy and nerve diseases
Parkinson’s disease and movement disorders
Dementia and cognitive disorders
Other brain and nervous system conditions
Prof. Dr. Rashid has participated in numerous international conferences and training programs, including:

European Academy of Neurology Congress (Amsterdam)
Stroke Congress (India)
Movement Disorder Conferences in Canada and Hong Kong
He also completed specialized epilepsy training in Bangkok and Sri Lanka.
In addition to his clinical work, he is actively involved in medical research and has published several national and international research articles related to neurology and neurological disorders.
